My favorite workshop to teach is “How to Meditate on Scripture” because of the fascinating way people hear God in Scripture. Such meditation is one of the primary ways to fix your inner self on the heart and mind of God. Contrary to what you might think, this practice is not weird or difficult. It’s actually . . . fun. You’ve probably experimented with it a little (because the human mind does this), but didn’t know how beneficial it could be. Most of us need more coaching to help that happen and that’s what I hope to do in this area of the web site.
If you want to know more about meditating on Scripture, read this synopsis of the workshop or listen to this CD of the workshop, Meditating on Scripture. If you’d like to give it a try, experiment with these exercises that lead you by the hand in meditating on specific Scripture passages. For more in-depth information and exercises, take a look at my book Savoring God’s Word, which explains both lectio divina and Ignatian style meditation in detail.
