I’ll Come Speak
I enjoy speaking at retreats, conferences, churches and colleges, hoping to ignite within listeners a burning desire to know God in an authentic way. Although I address such lofty topics as spiritual formation, authentic spirituality, purpose in life, compassionate concern for the needy, as well as others, the word most often used to describe my speaking is, "real." I'm eager to present these biblical ideas and persons in Scripture in down-to-earth, easy-to-relate-to ways, making it easier for people to connect with God and allow God to transform them into Christlikeness.
Retreats, inhouse church conferences and college spiritual emphasis weeks are my specialty and for them I provide small group interaction questions to follow talks. I also makes myself available for one-on-one consultations with participants. Behind the content of my talks are a degree in Christian education, years of Bible teaching, years of meditating on Scripture and the discipline of expressing truth with clarity and depth in fifteen books and years of leading discipleship groups, recovery groups and writing classes.
Am I the right speaker for you? My goal in speaking is to help folks hear God. To do this, I usually provide handouts for retention and for quiet reflection later.
For retreats and in-house conferences, I customarily build in these features:
But am I funny... or down to earth enough? As George Bernard Shaw said, “My way of joking is to tell the truth. It’s the funniest joke in the world.” I find a great deal of irony in the way we human beings respond to God, who loves us beyond anything we can imagine and has designed for us to grow in grace, but instead we make it complicated. For me that irony provides endless humor.
