Scripture Meditation Exercises

One of the primary ways to fix your inner self on the heart and mind of God is to meditate on Scripture. Contrary to what you might think, this practice is not weird or difficult. You’ve probably experimented with it a little (because the human mind does this!), but didn’t know how beneficial it could be. Most of us need more coaching to help that happen and that’s what I hope to do in this area of the web site.

So from here, you may enjoy exploring a brief article explaining Scripture meditation or exercises that lead you by the hand in meditating on specific Scripture passages. Even more information and exercises are provided in the book, Savoring God’s Word and the tape, Meditating on Scripture.

The Scripture meditation exercises in this section of the website were originally printed in the book Listening to God by Jan Johnson (NavPress, 1997). That book, which includes 30 such exercises, is now out of print (but still available in Chinese) and has been replaced by Savoring God's Word, which offers many more how-tos on the practice of Scripture meditation as well as some exercises. These exercises are printed on this web site for free download with the permission of NavPress.
